ABOUT
Renowned for its health-stimulating properties, it is traditionally associated with royalty, health and recuperation, longevity, sexual prowess, wisdom, and happiness.
The smell of the Reishi is a musty, mealy, not sweet, and not pleasant. It is sold dry in pill, tea, or whole form. Typically they are extracted in hot water for teas, tinctures, syrups, and soups. Some people enjoy making a tea from fresh, living specimens, breaking them into pieces, boiling water for 2 hours and then steeping for 30 minutes. The tea is reheated to a desired temperature, strained and served, without sweeteners. If a daily regimen of Reishi tea is followed, as little as 3-5 grams per person has been traditionally prescribed. The antler forms, with a reduced hymenial package, have a rich, mildly sweet, and soothing flavour reaction. The well-developed conk forms have a more bitter aftertaste. Yellow strains are more often bitter than the red and black strains.
